I’ll go over the main resources, that one book you must pick up, question banks and study techniques for best memory and recall!
How to get a fellowship in the US without doing residency? How to do a specialty Fellowship in the US when you have already completed a residency or a fellowship in some of the country?
Congratulations to all of those were matched, this is a milestone that you had been waiting for and struggling for for the last couple of years at least. And this opens up a new life, new aspirations and new goals.
So welcome to your new life and honestly this IS a new life.
Now this is not just a new beginning for you is also a new beginning for your family and all of your well wishers and this is surely a moment to rejoice, a moment to thank all those who helped you along the way and a moment to reflect and realize what actually it takes to succeed in life and also realize and should feel lucky as there would be other candidates who may be just as qualified and hardworking as yourself but for some reason could not attain this milestone yet. I’ll be discussing in a separate video on options for those who have not matched however for now just would like to share my thoughts on your next steps and how you should want to proceed for all those who have actually matched. This is going to be a new life and a life where planning is just as important to build a strong base for the rest of your future.
Not only that you will be meeting new people working with new colleagues and professors and with a host of new challenges. You must have learned a lot during your medical school training and clinical rotations however now is where you have to prove yourself for once again. As always as you have seen throughout your life, one achievement leads to another and going about the right way will probably get you to where you want not only academically but also in life in general your finances your short-term goals as well as your long-term goals.
Nevertheless, you need to have a game plan just for the residency itself and how to succeed and thrive and achieve your new goals.
You have to be goal oriented whether it’s looking after your family’s future if you have one, Or you have other things in mind. such as getting into Fellowship. Or you want to build a solid foundation financially for yourself, or you have yet not decided how to handle your student loans. You should be thinking about where you would want to eventually settle. Is the location where you matched, is it where you want to settle or is it something else. Do you currently have a family or are you planning on a family or you don’t have those considerations at this time.
Nevertheless, you need to have a game plan just for the residency itself and how to succeed and thrive and achieve your new goals. First of all you need to know what your goals are. You may realize that these goals may be entirely different from what you may have mentioned in your residency interviews or your personal statement but whatever they are you should think long and hard on your goals think about it yourself and always discuss with others. When you discuss your goals and your plans with others you come to realize and it starts to get your mind working and leads you to a better decision or a plan of action. But I would highly recommend is to have a mentor. Someone you do aim to be like or someone who you feel is what you want to be. A Mentor can actually be anyone doesn’t have to be an individual you are a well acquainted with, it could be any person who you feel is a solid individual. You can contact that person ask them if they will be willing to occasionally have a chat. Or it could be someone from your residency program that you have been in contact with. It would just be a way for you to assess yourself and your goals. All that basically is is that you would bounce off ideas and get some feedback with those who have been there and done that. It will get you thinking more and lead you to make better decisions and that is all as you know life is all about decisions. So I think by this I could stop right here I’ll be talking more on this topic and and let me know what your thoughts are or if you have any questions. So welcome to your new life and honestly this IS a new life.
